Uses

Liothyronine is used to treat an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism). It replaces or provides more thyroid hormone, which is normally made by the thyroid gland. Liothyronine is a manmade form of thyroid hormone. Low thyroid hormone levels can occur naturally or when the thyroid gland is injured by radiation/medications or removed by surgery. Having enough thyroid hormone helps you stay healthy. For children, having enough thyroid hormone helps them grow and learn normally. This medication is also used to treat other types of thyroid problems (such as certain types of goiters, thyroid cancer). It can also be used to test for certain types of thyroid disease. This medication should not be used to treat infertility unless it is caused by low thyroid hormone levels.

How To Use Liothyronine Sodium

Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. It is best to take it at the same time each day so your thyroid hormone level is kept at a constant level.

Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Do not stop taking it without first talking with your doctor. Thyroid replacement treatment is usually taken for life.

The dosage is based on your medical condition, age, lab test results, and response to treatment.

Certain medications can decrease the absorption of liothyronine. Examples include products that contain aluminum or magnesium, antacids, sucralfate, calcium supplements, iron, bile acid-binding resins (such as cholestyramine, colestipol, colesevelam), simethicone, sevelamer, sodium polystyrene sulfonate, among others. If you take any of these medications, take them at least 4 hours before or after liothyronine. If you take lanthanum, take it at least 2 hours before or after liothyronine.

Introduction

Thyrogen kit 0.9mg injection contains the active constituent Thyrotropin Alfa. It is a recombinant of thyroid stimulating hormone that belongs to the class of medications called diagnostic agents. It is used in people who have had their thyroid gland removed and are taking thyroid hormones to detect certain types of thyroid cancer. No special precautions are needed for elderly patients taking this medicine. Do not breastfeed or become pregnant during the treatment with this medicine. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, suspecting, or planning for pregnancy before receiving this medicine.

Uses of Thyrogen Kit 0.9mg Injection
Detects certain types of thyroid cancer removed after therapy.
Eliminate leftover thyroid tissue after surgery in combination with radioiodine treatment.
Therapeutic Effects of Thyrogen Kit 0.9mg Injection

Thyrogen kit 0.9mg injection is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone. The binding of this injection to TSH receptors on normal thyroid epithelial cells or well-differentiated thyroid cancer tissue stimulates iodine uptake and organification and synthesis and secretion of thyroglobulin (Tg), triiodothyronine (T3), and thyroxine (T4).  One of the effects is that it stimulates any remaining thyroid tissue to take up iodine which is important for radioiodine imaging. It also stimulates the production of thyroglobulin and thyroid hormones if there is any thyroid tissue left. These hormones can be measured in your blood.

Interaction of Thyrogen Kit 0.9mg Injection with other drugs
Inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, nutritional and vitamin supplements, and herbal products.
